Pierre Péters "Rosé for Albane" - A Master of Blanc de Blancs's Rosé Incursion
A Piece of History: Maison Pierre Péters is world-renowned for its crystal-clear Chardonnays. In 2007, Rodolphe Péters broke with family tradition by creating the "Rosé for Albane" cuvée, dedicated to his daughter. This bottle is one of the first to be released from the cellar, purchased in 2010, offering exceptional insight into the aging potential of this unique cuvée.
The Art of "Reverse" Assembly
Far from classic blended rosés, this cuvée is a daring marriage:
- Chardonnay (Le Mesnil-sur-Oger Grand Cru): It forms the backbone of the wine, bringing the mineral tension and finesse characteristic of the terroirs of the Côte des Blancs.
- Pinot Meunier (Rosé de Saignée de Cumières): Instead of using still red wine, Rodolphe Péters uses the saignée method for Meunier grapes. This technique, rare for an estate in Le Mesnil, gives the wine its dark "onion skin" color and an incredibly fleshy texture.
Why is this bottle special?
Acquired in 2010, this bottle represents the very origin of this cuvée. At the time, production was even more limited than it is today. Its extended aging in the cellar has allowed the exuberant fruitiness of the Meunier grape to integrate perfectly with the rigorous structure of the Chardonnay from Mesnil. This is a wine that has "grown," evolving from a youthful lusciousness to the complexity of a great gastronomic wine.
Tasting Notes (Original Profile)
- Appearance: A deep, sparkling peachy pink with coppery highlights due to noble evolution in the bottle.
- Nose: A complex bouquet of ripe raspberry, rose petals, and a hint of toasted brioche. Notes of pink grapefruit zest provide a lingering freshness.
- Palate: The attack is lively (a signature of Péters), followed by a silky and creamy mid-palate. The finish is saline, almost iodine-like, with hints of tart red berries.
State and Conservation
This bottle is in excellent condition. The glass and capsule are well preserved, with only a few minor signs of age that in no way detract from the quality of this precious nectar. A flawless bottle for discerning Champagne connoisseurs.
WUAT's Opinion
This is a Champagne that "breaks the rules". Forget light, poolside rosés; we are dealing here with a structured, complex wine that will enhance a beef carpaccio, a seared bluefin tuna or even an aged parmesan.
