Presentation of the domain
Domaine du Mas Blanc (Parcé et Fils), a historic Banyuls landmark, crafts naturally sweet wines on schist terraces overlooking the Mediterranean. Old vines, hand-picked grapes, and long aging create a deep, saline, and rancio style of great nobility.
Presentation of the vintage
Banyuls 1979 “Cuvée de la Saint Martin”: natural sweet wine fortified with must, then long oxidative aging in old barrels (and sometimes demijohns) to develop the rancio aromas. Traditional blend dominated by Grenache (predominantly black), supplemented according to batches. Smooth texture, sugar/alcohol balance carried by a fine salinity.
Presentation of the vintage
1979 in Roussillon is a sunny and consistent vintage: clear ripeness and concentrated matter, ideal for Banyuls with great ageing potential. Today, the profile has reached a mature tertiary complexity and remarkable resistance to aeration.
Tasting notes
Ample nose of walnut and hazelnut, dried fig, date, candied orange peel, cocoa, coffee and sweet spices (elegant rancio). Velvety palate, iodized freshness, salivating structure; very long finish on dried fruits, brown caramel and bitter zest.
Bottle condition
Level and color consistent with the vintage (see photos). Label and cap slightly stained and aged, very beautiful. Capsule and cork intact. Wine over 10 years old: variations possible depending on storage. Sale as is.
Food and wine pairings
Blue cheese with parsley (Roquefort) and nut bread.
Dark chocolate or caramel cream tart.
Candied citrus fruits, grilled dried fruits.
