Presentation of the Domaine D'Ognoas
Domaine D'Ognoas is one of the oldest and most prestigious Armagnac producers, managed by the Landes Department. Located in the noblest region of France, Bas-Armagnac, the estate is renowned for the exceptional quality of its eaux-de-vie, distilled using traditional methods and aged for a long time in oak barrels. Its history and public management make it a benchmark for authenticity and traceability.
Presentation of the Cuvée and the appellation
Bas-Armagnac is the most renowned appellation in Gascony, producing elegant and fine eaux-de-vie, known as "Armagnacs des Landes," which are particularly suited to long aging. This Armagnac is a 1968 vintage, meaning it was distilled that year. It was then aged for 20 years in oak barrels, then bottled in 1988. The long aging gives the eau-de-vie a mahogany color and remarkable aromatic complexity. This is a magnum (1.5 liters), a rare and sought-after format.
- Appellation: Bas-Armagnac (AOC).
- Technical Characteristics: Simple distillation and prolonged aging in Gascony oak barrels. Bottled on the property in 1988.
- Notes: Expect notes of prune, leather, undergrowth, rancio, vanilla and sweet spices.
Presentation of the 1968 Vintage
The 1968 vintage is an important one in the history of Domaine d'Ognoas production. Since Armagnac is bottled only on demand, this eau-de-vie was optimally aged in barrels before being bottled in 1988. The eaux-de-vie from this period have a strong personality, offering beautiful aromatic concentration and exceptional length on the palate. The high alcohol level (47% alc vol) is a further mark of quality.
