Presentation of the Bouchard Père & Fils estate

Founded in 1731 in Beaune, Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest and most prestigious estates in Burgundy. Located at the Château de Beaune since 1820, the estate cultivates over 130 hectares of vines, including 12 classified as Grands Crus and 74 as Premiers Crus. The estate is renowned for its historical expertise and its exceptional ability to age wines in its 15th-century underground cellars.

Presentation of the climate "Strikes - Vineyard of the Child Jesus"

The "Grèves" climate, in the heart of the Beaune appellation, is renowned for its light gravelly soils, perfect for Pinot Noir. The "Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus" is an exclusive monopoly plot owned by Bouchard Père & Fils, whose name is said to date back to a prediction made at the birth of Louis XIV. This terroir produces full-bodied, refined, and very elegant wines with exceptional aging potential.

The name "Vine of the Child Jesus" refers to a historical anecdote:

It is said that Marguerite du Saint-Sacrement, Carmelite founder of the Domestics of the Family of the Holy Child Jesus, predicted the birth of King Louis XIV of France when his mother, Anne of Austria, was barren. Upon the birth of the future Sun King, this exceptional vineyard belonging to the Carmelites took the name "Vine of the Child Jesus."

In 1791, during the sale of national products, Maison Bouchard Père & Fils acquired the land, located in the heart of the 32 hectares of the Beaune Grèves appellation. It still holds the monopoly today.

TASTING NOTE: Notes of cooked mushrooms and earth, very ripe black fruits. On the palate, the red cherry is still present. The wine is well present, it offers a structure and a length that still show a beautiful luminosity for its age and this vintage. 1976 was a very rich vintage due to a great drought and low yields, today it fully benefits from its long years of aging.
