Founded in 1843 in Aÿ, the Besserat de Bellefon house is renowned for its production of "gastronomic" champagne. It was born from the marriage of Edmond Besserat and Yvonne Méric de Bellefon. Indeed, not undergoing malolactic fermentation, their champagnes are renowned for being wines for aging.

The house owns 25 hectares of land and sources grapes from local winegrowers to increase their production capacity. Besserat de Bellefon champagne is now owned by the Lanson-BCC group.

Tasting advice: Best enjoyed with two people, four maximum, otherwise you'll be sad there's only one bottle. Open the bottle, pour 5 centilitres into a glass and partially recork the bottle to enjoy it an hour later.

We tasted several older bottles of Besserat de Bellefon, which isn't the most famous Champagne house, and they were all fantastic. We should point out that this is a completely subjective opinion.
