The Spirit of Blason de l'Évangile

Blason de l'Évangile is the second wine of Château l'Évangile. It benefits from the same careful attention as its older sibling, both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Located between Pétrus and Cheval Blanc, l'Évangile's terroir is one of the most coveted in Pomerol. The Blason is designed to offer a more immediate and supple approach, while retaining the elegance and pedigree of the Rothschild family's wines.

The 1992 Vintage: The Surprise of Maturity

While 1992 was a technically challenging vintage in Bordeaux, great terroirs like Pomerol managed to shine. More than three decades later, this wine has completely integrated its tannins. It's a bottle that "does the job" for those who appreciate tertiary aromas and the finesse of old wines that have reached their peak. It offers excellent value for money for an appellation as prestigious as Pomerol.

Bottle Condition

This bottle has been carefully preserved for many years. The label shows slight stains due to time spent in the cellar, which does not alter the quality of the precious liquid. The capsule is in excellent condition and the fill level is entirely satisfactory for a 1992 wine, guaranteeing a pleasant tasting experience.

Tasting Notes

The color is evolved, with brick-colored reflections. The nose is subtle, marked by notes of undergrowth, dried leaves, tobacco, and small dried red berries. On the palate, the wine is fluid, without any harshness. The tannins are completely polished, giving way to a delicate texture. It is a wine of finesse, to be savored for its history and its rediscovered balance.

Food Pairings

  • A simple country pâté or a pâté en croûte
  • Roasted veal
  • Mild, not-too-strong soft cheeses (Brie, aged Camembert)
  • Simply shared with friends for the pleasure of tasting an old vintage

Serving Suggestions

  • Serving temperature: 16-17°C
  • Aeration: Do not decant. Opening 15 to 30 minutes before serving will be sufficient to allow the wine to breathe without making it fragile.
  • Cellaring: Drink now.

WUAT's Note

You don't choose your birth year, but you can choose how to celebrate it! This 1992 Blason de l'Évangile is a rare opportunity to acquire a Pomerol of over 30 years at a very reasonable price. It's the perfect wine for a historical nod or an unpretentious meal among enthusiasts.
