Château Calon-Ségur has one of the most beautiful histories among Bordeaux châteaux. It was indeed the favorite of the Marquis de Ségur who, despite owning other rather pleasant small estates like Mouton, Lafite and Latour (no less), preferred Calon. Hence the very famous phrase "I make my wine at Lafite and Latour, but my heart is in Calon."
Vintage 1983 tasted in January 2021: When handling bottles all day, there basically comes a time when you risk breaking one. This was the case with this vintage. Fortunately, we had time to protect it with plastic film. We were therefore able to recover the precious beverage before it spilled onto the floor.
Regarding the tasting (because in the end that's what interests you): It's surprisingly lively, the tannins are completely melted but the structure is there. The aromas of crushed fresh fruit, especially strawberry, dominate. A surprising bottle for this little-regarded vintage.
