Domaine François Raveneau - Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre 2019

The 2019 Vintage: Richness and Balance

The 2019 vintage in Chablis is one of beautiful ripeness, considered powerful and concentrated, without ever becoming excessive. It was a warm year that allowed for a remarkable richness of fruit, balanced by the famously vibrant and crisp acidity typical of Kimmeridgian wines. The wine from Montée de Tonnerre gains in body and sap, offering a more satiny and enveloping texture.

Critics' Review: A True Knockout

This 2019 Montée de Tonnerre has been lauded by international critics. Allen Meadows (Burghound) awarded it an exceptional 95/100, calling it a "real knockout." William Kelley (Wine Advocate) gave it 94/100, noting that, like the 2020, it is a kind of " baby Clos "—highlighting its structure and Grand Cru potential.

Wine Character: Depth and Sap

Unlike the 2021 (classic and austere) and the 2022 (opulent and seductive in its youth), the 2019 stands out as a wine of depth. Aging in Domaine Raveneau barrels adds further complexity, complementing the richness of the fruit. This is a dense and structured wine that promises spectacular longevity.

Tasting Notes: Ripe Fruity and Chalky

2019 is more expressive in youth than 2021:

  • Nose: Complex, with notes of yellow fruits (peach, candied lemon), citrus zest, white flowers, nutmeg and a light smokiness.
  • Palate: Ample and generous on the attack, supported by a lively acidity that lengthens the finish. The mid-palate is dense and rich. A chalky and saline finish, typical of Montée de Tonnerre, reveals its immense aging potential (peak 2030-2055+).

Bottle Condition

The bottle is in perfect condition (fill level and cap).

Food & Wine Pairing and Service

Serve at 12-13°C. This richer wine requires dishes that can match its density.

  • Grilled lobster or monkfish medallion.
  • Noble poultry (Bresse chicken) with cream and morels.
  • Andouillette de Troyes (classic regional pairing) or fish in white sauce.
