The Dom Pérignon House:
Dom Pérignon, a global icon of Champagne, embodies excellence and innovation. The house is named after the Benedictine monk Dom Pierre Pérignon, a pioneer of blending in Champagne in the 17th century. Each vintage is a unique creation, produced exclusively in years when conditions are deemed perfect. Located in the historic cellars of Hautvillers Abbey, Dom Pérignon remains a symbol of art and refinement, appreciated by connoisseurs and collectors worldwide.
Presentation of the vintage and the appellation
Dom Pérignon is a vintage Champagne made only from the best vintages. The blend is generally composed of equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, both from Premiers and Grands Crus of Champagne. The 1973 vintage was vinified in stainless steel vats, aged for a long time on lees, and then disgorged late. There is no high dosage: the house favors purity of style.
Tasting notes (according to period critics): nose of dried fruits, honey, blond tobacco; lively, taut palate, with good length.
Historical average score: between 91 and 93/100 (Wine Advocate / CellarTracker).
Presentation of the vintage
1973 is a vintage with an excellent reputation in Champagne. Despite a rainy spring, the summer was hot and dry, favoring beautiful maturity. The champagnes of this vintage are structured, sometimes austere in their youth, but age very well. Dom Pérignon 1973 is considered one of the best examples of this year.
