Presentation of the GH Mumm & C° House
Founded in 1827 in Reims, GH Mumm & C° is one of the greatest Champagne houses, famous for its boldness and its red ribbon ("Cordon Rouge"). Mumm owns a vast vineyard, mainly in Grands Crus, and is renowned for the finesse of its wines, which are predominantly Pinot Noir.
Characteristics of the Cuvée Cordon Vert Demi-Sec
The Cordon Vert cuvée is a historic and less common variant than its Red counterpart.
- Appellation: Champagne (AOC), heart of the region.
- Typology: "Cordon Vert" was often the House's Demi-Sec cuvée, characterized by a higher sugar content than Brut. Historically, Demi-Sec was the dominant taste on the market.
- Notes: This Demi-Sec Champagne from the 70s-80s, well preserved, has a melted bubble and will develop aromas of candied fruits, acacia honey and pastry, typical of evolved Champagnes.
Analysis of the Production Period (Late 1970s to Late 1980s)
This bottle is dated to the late 1970s to late 1980s due to the label style and the popularity of the Demi-Sec cuvée. Champagnes from this decade, if well-aged, are sought after for their complexity. This Cordon Vert cuvée is an excellent example of the evolution of market tastes, before the almost exclusive dominance of Brut.
