Domaine Jean-Marc Pillot - Presentation

Jean-Marc Pillot represents the fourth generation of winemakers in Chassagne-Montrachet. Since taking over the estate in 1991, he has elevated production to among the most consistent and respected in the Côte de Beaune. While he excels at white wines, Jean-Marc is one of the rare staunch defenders of the tradition of great red Chassagne wines, crafting his Pinot Noirs with remarkable precision and delicacy.

Cuvée and Appellation Presentation: Le Clos Saint-Jean

Le Clos Saint-Jean is a legendary terroir. Owned by the Benedictine Abbey of Saint-Jean-le-Grand in Autun before the year 1000, this vineyard is situated on limestone rock covered with ferruginous red clay. This unique composition promotes perfect maturation of the Pinot Noir, giving rise to wines of a deep ruby color, expressive character, and elegant structure. Historically, it is the flagship red wine of the appellation.

2010 Vintage Presentation

2010 is a "winemaker's vintage," characterized by classic balance and vibrant acidity that has allowed the wines to age gracefully. The red wines of the Côte de Beaune in 2010 are distinguished by their purity of fruit and natural elegance. After 16 years in the cellar, these wines have integrated their tannins while retaining a saline freshness that makes them irresistible at the table.

Bottle Condition

Levels are perfect and capsules intact. Please note that the labels show some signs of humidity and slight soiling due to storage in a natural cellar, which guarantees ideal humidity for cork preservation. We have adjusted the price to reflect this cosmetic condition.

Tasting Notes

The color is a ruby red evolving towards cherry reflections. The nose offers a complex bouquet of infused red fruits (raspberry, redcurrant), dried flowers, and subtle undergrowth notes. On the palate, the wine is silky and expressive. The structure is present but with great finesse, leading to a persistent and elegant finish.

Food and Wine Pairings

  • Duck breast with red berries
  • Wild mushroom fricassee
  • Grilled Iberian pork pluma
  • Hard cheeses (aged Comté, Tomme de Savoie)

Serving Suggestions

  • Serving temperature: 15–16°C
  • Aeration: A simple opening 30 minutes before tasting allows the full complexity of the bouquet to unfold.
  • Aging potential: At its peak, can be enjoyed now or cellared for another 5 years.

WUAT Note

This is a rare opportunity to acquire a "historic" Burgundy terroir from a benchmark vintage. This Clos Saint-Jean 2010 is the perfect gift for an enthusiast wishing to discover the noble red side of Chassagne-Montrachet, crafted by one of its most talented interpreters.
