Presentation of Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey (often abbreviated PYCM) has become, in a few years, the "cult winemaker" of Chassagne-Montrachet. Eldest son of Marc Colin, he created his own estate in 2005. His method is rigorous: no bâtonnage, aging in 350-liter barrels to preserve freshness, and waxing the cork to prevent any premature oxidation. His wines are today among the most sought-after in the world for their crystalline profile.

Presentation of the cuvée and the appellation

The "Les Ancegnières" lieu-dit is strategically located just below the Grand Cru Bâtard-Montrachet. This proximity gives it a nobility of body and an aromatic power normally found only in the most prestigious Premier Crus. In PYCM's hands, this parcel expresses a mineral tension and elegance that defy established hierarchies.

Presentation of the 2014 vintage

2014 is considered by critics and enthusiasts to be the "ultimate" vintage for white Burgundy wines. It combines perfect phenolic ripeness with vibrant acidity and an exceptional saline structure. It is a vintage with immense aging potential and is just beginning to enter its phase of absolute plenitude.

Bottle condition

The bottle is in exceptional condition. The characteristic yellow wax of the domain is perfectly intact, without any cracks. The label is immaculate and the level is perfect. Bottles stored with the utmost care, ready for a high-level cellar. (CAUTION: One of the bottles shows a red mark (left by the wax of another bottle) on the label; if you do not wish to have this bottle, please let us know)

Tasting notes

The nose is a PYCM signature: a noble reduction hinting at gunflint, followed by aromas of white flowers, lemon zest, and fresh almond. On the palate, the wine is a burst of energy. The tension is magnificent, supported by a dense yet never heavy texture. The finish is saline, chalky, and stretches out with phenomenal persistence.

Food and wine pairings

  • Pan-fried scallops with beurre noisette
  • Bresse poultry with cream and morels
  • Lightly seared langoustines with fleur de sel
  • Aged Comté or summer Beaufort cheese

Serving suggestions

  • Serving temperature: 12°C
  • Aeration: Open 30 minutes before tasting to allow reductive notes to open up to fruit.
  • Aging: At its peak, can still be kept for 10 to 15 years without any problem.

WUAT's Note

A 2014 from Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is an absolute rarity on the market. It is the perfect marriage between the greatest current white wine producer and the best white vintage of the modern era. An essential bottle for any elite Chardonnay enthusiast.
