Château Ausone is one of Bordeaux's most legendary estates. Located on the right bank of the Garonne River in Saint-Émilion, it is classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé A. Its history dates back to Roman times, but it was in the 18th century that the estate began producing world-renowned wines. Today, it is run by the Vauthier family, who took over the reins in 1997.

The Ausone cuvée is considered one of the greatest wines of Saint-Émilion, and perhaps even of all of Bordeaux. It is an exceptional wine, produced in very small quantities (around 20,000 bottles per year), from a blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. The Ausone cuvée is known for its finesse, complexity, and length on the palate.

The 1974 Saint-Émilion vintage was considered a difficult one due to unfavorable weather conditions. While May and June heralded a good year, the following summer was cold and rainy, which was a shame. Despite this, the 1974 Ausone is a wine that has stood the test of time thanks to its balance and finesse. This wine is considered a great vintage for Ausone and is now highly sought after by wine lovers.

Food and wine pairing:

Ausone 1974 is the perfect accompaniment to a red meat dish, such as a fillet of beef or a leg of lamb. It can also be enjoyed with a platter of mature cheeses.

Serving tips:

Ausone 1974 should be served at a temperature of 16 to 18 degrees Celsius. It is recommended to decant it at least one hour before tasting. The wine should be served in large, high-quality red wine glasses.
