Presentation of Château Calon-Ségur
Château Calon-Ségur, located in the "Saint-Estèphe" appellation (Médoc, Bordeaux), was classified as a Third Classified Growth in 1855. It is famous for its label adorned with a "heart," a tribute to the Marquis de Ségur who said: "I make wine in Lafite and Mouton, but my heart is in Calon." The estate is renowned for the longevity and finesse of its wines, based primarily on Cabernet Sauvignon.
Characteristics of the Cuvée and the appellation
The wine is produced on gravel and clay soils, typical of Saint-Estèphe, which gives powerful, tannic wines suitable for aging.
- Appellation: Saint-Estèphe (AOC). The blend is typical of the Médoc, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon.
- Technical Characteristics: This 3rd Classified Growth is vinified for aging. Despite the 1992 vintage, the structure of the Calon-Ségur wine has allowed for exceptional aging.
- Tasting Analysis: Recently tasted, this 1992 surprised us with its classic 80s style, elegance and maturity. It offers a beautiful aromatic complexity and the bottle was drunk very quickly (which is a sure sign of satisfaction).
Presentation of the 1992 Vintage and Conservation
The 1992 vintage is generally considered an average one in Bordeaux, affected by late-season rain. However, this bottle is proof that the importance of optimal storage transcends the weaknesses of a single year. Thanks to a cool and slightly (too) humid cellar, the wine has achieved unsuspected complexity, offering great tasting pleasure at an affordable price. This is a wonderful opportunity for lovers of mature wines.
Condition of the bottle (Vintage 1992)
- Level: Perfect
- Color: Perfect (normal evolution for age)
- Condition of the label: Very worn and stained (evidence of a very humid cellar, but perfectly preserved)
- Capsule Condition: Slightly Oxidized
- Overall condition of the bottle: Good (wine quality preserved)
Food and Wine Pairing
This wine requires a dish that does not mask its delicate aromas, echoing its classic profile:
- A pan-fried or roasted piece of beef (fillet).
- A duck breast served with a porcini mushroom sauce.
- Hard, mature cheeses, such as Comté or Cantal.
