Introducing Château Carbonnieux

As one of Bordeaux's oldest estates, Château Carbonnieux's viticultural roots date back to the 12th century, under the guidance of the Benedictine monks of the Abbey of Sainte-Croix. As a historical anecdote, the estate's white wine gave rise to a legend: the monks exported it as far as the palace of the Sultan of Constantinople under the name "Carbonnieux Mineral Water," as the wine was so clear that it circumvented the religious ban! Beyond these delightful tales, Carbonnieux is a Grand Cru Classé of Graves renowned for the exemplary consistency of its red wines, built on finesse and endowed with an exceptional aging potential.

Introducing the Appellation: Pessac-Léognan

Established on the historic gravel soils south of Bordeaux, the AOC Pessac-Léognan comprises unique soils of pebbles and gravel deposited by the Garonne. This natural drainage allows Bordeaux grape varieties to ripen gradually and gives them a distinctive mineral signature, characterized by notes of smoke, cigar box, and dried black fruit.

Introducing the 1993 Vintage

The 1993 vintage produced wines of great finesse, suppleness, and drinkability in Bordeaux. After more than three decades of careful aging in the cellar, the tannic structure has fully softened to make way for a charming tertiary bouquet, blending undergrowth, fine leather, cedar, and sweet spices.

Condition and Provenance

- Fill level: Perfect
- Color: Perfect
- Label: Shows slight signs of age and a natural patina, overall very clean condition
- Capsule: Original capsule in excellent condition
- Provenance: Private cellar

Food & Wine Pairings and Serving Suggestions

Serving suggestions: Serve between 16°C and 17°C. Opening the bottle 30 to 45 minutes before tasting without decanting will allow the wine to release the finesse of its tertiary bouquet.
Food pairings: This mature red will perfectly complement roast veal with mushrooms, pan-seared duck breast, guinea fowl with chestnuts, or sautéed chanterelles.

Personal Note and Cuvée Singularities

"While speculative collectors sometimes seek out the rarest names, Château Carbonnieux remains the best-kept secret of connoisseurs who appreciate truly fine bottles to share. This 1993 is a perfect example of the estate's aging potential: the wine is remarkably balanced, and the bottle is in magnificent condition. It is the ideal choice for a memorable 1993 birthday gift or for a carefree treat."
