Château Corbin Michotte Presentation
Château Corbin Michotte is located in the prestigious Corbin area, immediately bordering Pomerol. Owned by the Boidron family for several generations, the estate is renowned for its respectful viticulture and traditional winemaking. This terroir, composed of sand over an iron-rich clay subsoil, gives the wines an elegance and aging potential that rivals their famous neighbors.
The Enigma of "Corbin"
Château Corbin, Grand Corbin, Grand Corbin-Despagne, Corbin-Michotte, etc., were part of a single, immense seigneury in the Middle Ages called the Seigneury of Corbin. Here are the two main theories on the origin of the name:
-
The Legend of Edward of Woodstock (The Black Prince): It is said that the famous English prince, who occupied Aquitaine in the 14th century, owned these lands. The name would come from the Old French Corbin (the raven), which was a heraldic symbol or a nickname related to the blackness of certain soils or a coat of arms.
-
The Latin Origin: More likely, it comes from a wealthy Gallo-Roman landowner named Corvinus. At the time, estates often took the name of their owner.
Today, Corbin is a precise geographical sector of Saint-Émilion, on the border of Pomerol, characterized by ancient sands on iron-rich clay subsoils ("crasse de fer"), which gives the wines their particular silky and floral character.
Presentation of the 1975 Vintage
The 1975 vintage is historically recognized in Bordeaux as a "salvage" year after several difficult vintages. It is a great aging year, characterized by powerful wines, rich in tannins, and with an impressive structure. Fifty years later, these wines have beautifully integrated to reveal extraordinary tertiary complexity.
Bottle Condition
This 1975 bottle is in remarkable condition. The fill level is perfectly consistent for a bottle over 50 years old. The label is clean and perfectly legible, having been stored in a healthy cellar. The capsule is intact, guaranteeing the integrity of the cork and the wine.
Food and Wine Pairings
