Château Ducru-Beaucaillou 1976: The Classic Elegance of a Fully Matured Saint-Julien
Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is part of the restricted elite of "Super Seconds", those Second Growths classified in 1855 whose quality and consistency rival, or sometimes even surpass, the First Growths. Located on magnificent gravelly hills facing the Gironde estuary, its terroir lends the wine exceptional finesse and aging potential. This historic vintage showcases the estate's traditional blend (65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot), offering a sovereign balance between structure and velvetiness.
The 1976 vintage is renowned in Bordeaux for its scorching summer and historic drought. These extreme climatic conditions resulted in highly concentrated grapes. Thanks to the estate's expertise, this Saint-Julien developed superb straightness. For true connoisseurs, this extremely long-aging wine fearlessly rivals the greatest legends of the Left Bank, such as Château Léoville Las Cases.
Authentic Vintage Patina
The bottles offered display superb attributes of authenticity. Observers will notice that some labels are slightly askew: a typical technical detail of manual or semi-mechanical bottling and labeling lines of that decade, which today constitutes a valuable guarantee of integrity for the collector.
Bottle Condition
- Liquid Level: Neck / Base of neck (an exceptionally high and rare condition for a wine approaching 50 years of age. One of the bottles has a slightly lower level, high shoulder, remaining perfectly sound).
- Labels: Entirely original, perfectly legible and intact, bearing the noble patina of time spent in the cellar.
- Capsules and Corks: Perfectly hermetic, intact capsules and well-secured corks.
Tasting Profile
The robe offers an old ruby hue with brick and amber reflections, showing beautiful transparency. The bouquet, of great distinction, opens with notes of cedar, Havana tobacco, spice box, fine leather, humus, and candied prune. On the palate, the attack is soft, suave, and delicate. The wine unfolds with a texture patinated by decades, where tannins are discreet, giving way to a silky length, nobly spiced, and with remarkable persistent freshness.
