CHÂTEAU FILHOT 2005 - SAUTERNES
Caution: A stained label
Bottling: 20 to 24 months after fermentation
Château Filhot produces 60,000 bottles per year with a fairly low yield of around 15 hl/ha, which says a lot about the concentration of the wine.
The vineyard covers 62 hectares.
The Château Filhot vineyard dates back to the 1630s and 1650s. The château was founded in 1709 by Romain de Filhot, then a councilor in the Bordeaux parliament, whose family already owned the noble house of Verdoulet in Sauternes. At the time, he had imposed the Sauternes appellation in place of "Vin de Langon" for the region's sweet wines. After the revolution, the Lur-Saluces family managed the estate as Filot's heirs.
The estate was classified as a second grand cru in 1855. The Château became known worldwide when it took the name "Château Sauternes" before becoming Château Filhot again in 1901.
Since 1935, the Durieu de Lacarelle family has managed the estate following its purchase by a Lur-Saluces sister. One of Countess Durieu de Lacarell's daughters married Count Pierre de Vaucelles, the French ambassador. Since 1974, their son and grandson have managed the estate.
