Château Trotanoy 2010: A Historic Monument of Pomerol in a Legendary Vintage

The Estate: Trotanoy, the Strength and Prestige of Pomerol

Château Trotanoy takes its historic name from the Old French "trop anoi" (too much trouble), referring to the great difficulty experienced by old winemakers in tilling its soil of heavy clays and hard gravels over a subsoil rich in iron pan. Located on the highest and most qualitative part of the Pomerol plateau, this exceptional estate has been managed with meticulous precision by Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix since 1953. Trotanoy is universally recognized for producing wines of monumental depth, often considered the most powerful, complex, and rich in the appellation, directly rivalling its neighbour Pétrus.

The Cuvée: Opulence Magnified by Black Clays

Composed predominantly of Merlot complemented by a touch of Cabernet Franc, Château Trotanoy's cuvée expresses all the uniqueness of its singular terroir, partly made up of the famous black clays. Meticulously aged in French oak barrels, this wine develops a texture of exceptional density and velvety smoothness, supported by a noble tannic framework and a structure built to defy time over several generations.

The 2010 Vintage: Hectometric Perfection in Bordeaux

The 2010 vintage is hailed by international critics as one of the greatest successes of the 21st century in Bordeaux. Characterized by a dry summer and cool nights, it produced grapes with extraordinary phenolic concentration while preserving remarkable acidity. At Trotanoy, 2010 gave birth to a masterful wine, combining monumental power with chiselled freshness, offering almost unlimited ageing potential.

Provenance, Traceability, and Conservation Status

These precious bottles show perfect traceability and integrity. They come directly from an original wooden case (CBO) and have been stored in a magnificent natural cellar located in Champagne. This prolonged slumber under ideal humidity and a constant cool temperature guarantees an absolutely clinical and harmonious evolution of the wine.

Level: Perfect | Colour: Perfect | Capsule: In perfect condition | Label: New, intact and impeccable, just out of the wooden case | Overall condition: Perfect condition.

Tasting Profile and Pairings

  • Colour: An extremely dark, almost black, dense and brilliant purple, with no significant signs of evolution.
  • Nose: A monumental and intensely powerful bouquet. Notes of blackcurrant cream, wild blackberry, black truffle, dark chocolate, liquorice, and violet unfold, complemented by mineral touches of pencil lead and sweet spices.
  • Palate: The attack is extraordinarily rich. The palate is voluminous, dense, and textured by tannins of absolute nobility, both massive and ripe. A masterful freshness stretches the wine towards an endless, complex, and deeply flavorful finish.
  • Pairings: An anthology bottle that will wonderfully accompany game meat (roast venison with grand veneur sauce), a hare à la royale, a beef fillet with truffles, or roasted pigeon with porcini mushrooms.
