Chateau d'Yquem 2005 - 1st Grand Cru Classé of Sauternes
Yquem, like Château Cheval Blanc, is owned by the Arnaud family (LVMH group). The change of ownership has not affected the Château's legendary quality and consistency. The estate has 105 hectares of vines planted mainly with Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc, producing around 100,000 bottles annually.
Years considered too weak or not suitable for producing a great wine are downgraded. Thus, the 2012, 1992, 1974, 1972, 1964, 1952, 1951, 1930, 1915 and 1910 vintages never existed.
About the 2005 vintage:
Weather conditions heralding a great vintage; moderate water stress, a more temperate end to summer and therefore conducive to good acidity, alternating rain and dry heat for optimal concentration of the berries and finally a bouquet of unprecedented complexity and aromatic diversity, confirmed by the phenomenal character of 2005.
