Ah, the Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 1988 , a monument for lovers of great Blanc de Blancs Champagnes... An exceptional wine, made exclusively from Chardonnay grapes from the most prestigious crus of the Côte des Blancs. The nobility of this vintage, combined with the ancestral know-how of the Taittinger house, makes it a must-have for collector's cellars.

What more can I say? This bottle stands out for its aging potential. 1988, more than 35 years after its bottling, continues to reveal complex aromas: toasted notes, dried fruits (almonds, hazelnuts) and candied citrus, with a breathtaking persistence on the palate. A true contender for the throne of legendary champagnes!

Taittinger House

Founded in 1734, this historic Champagne house embodies the exceptional expertise of the house, paying homage to Theobald IV, Count of Champagne, who brought Chardonnay vines from Cyprus in the 13th century.

Vintage:

1988 , an exceptional year in Champagne. A hot summer and a high-quality harvest, offering ripe grapes with good acidity and exceptional aging potential.

Technical Details:

Terroir:
100% Chardonnay from Grands Crus exclusively located on the prestigious Côte des Blancs (Avize, Chouilly, Cramant, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger). These limestone terroirs give the wine finesse, minerality and freshness.

Vinification and Aging:
The 1988 Comtes de Champagne aged for over 10 years in the deep chalk pits of Taittinger in Reims. This long aging on lees allowed the development of a highly complex aromatic palette and a silky texture.

Assembly :
100% Chardonnay (Blanc de Blancs), guaranteeing elegance and purity.

Alcohol content:
12% vol.

Food & Wine Pairing:

A wine made to accompany refined dishes. Serve it with:

  • Seafood (lobster, oysters, langoustines).
  • Noble fish (turbot, sole, sea bass).
  • Creamed or truffled poultry.
  • A simple, aged Parmesan for lovers of savory pairings.
