Presentation of the domain
Paul Jaboulet Aîné, a historic Rhône winery (founded in the 19th century), produces "Domaine de Saint Pierre" in Cornas, made from steep granite slopes and old Syrah grapes. Style: precision, depth, and a classic patina that enhances the wild and noble character of the appellation.
Presentation of the vintage
100% Syrah from granite hillsides, hand-picked, rigorously sorted. Gentle vinification to preserve the black fruit and spicy notes; extended maceration. Aged in oak barrels (measured proportion of new wood) for 12–18 months to melt the tannins without masking the terroir. Controlled yields, pure expression of Cornas.
Presentation of the vintage
1998 in the Northern Rhône – and in Cornas in particular – is a legendary vintage: a hot summer, complete maturity, ripe tannins and superb concentration. These wines are full-bodied, deep and made for long aging, today at an ideal balance between power and tertiary complexity.
Tasting notes
Nose of blackberry and blackcurrant, black olive, pepper, violet and smoke (bacon). Full and tasty palate, polished tannins, salivating granite structure; accents of fine leather, blood and sweet spices evolving. Long, straight and fresh finish, with an assumed Cornas signature.
Bottle condition
Level and color consistent with the vintage, capsule and cork intact in excellent condition. Label torn and worn but perfectly identifiable according to photos. Sale as is.
Food and wine pairings
Grilled rib of beef, short jus.
Beef cheek stew with mild spices.
Roasted game birds, pan-fried porcini mushrooms.
