"Château" Cos d'Estournel 1985 - Saint-Estèphe - 2nd Grand Cru Classé 1855
Is there still much need to introduce Cos d'Estournel? This 1855 Second Growth Classified is by far the most famous Saint-Estèphe. Its powerful and elegant style, and the very consistent quality it has demonstrated for over 50 years, make it one of the best Bordeaux wines, sometimes rated higher than some First Growth Classifieds.
Cos almost always has significant aging potential. The 1986 and 1988 vintages are still somewhat closed today.
The estate is also known for its second wine, Pagodes de Cos, but also its Cos d'Estournel Blanc , produced in very small quantities since 2005.
Robert Parker's 1999 Tasting Notes:
Well-evolved, with a fabulous bouquet of toast and highly concentrated red and black fruits (especially black cherry), it is rich, long, flavorful, and medium-bodied on the palate. Very fragrant, it delights both the nose and the palate with its aromas of sweet black fruits, minerals, and spices. 93 points
Tasting advice:
Decant at least 1 hour before serving. Serving temperature: 17 to 18 degrees
State of conservation: 2 Variants therefore two prices
Level: Perfect
Color: Perfect
Labels: PLEASE NOTE: Most of the bottles are in perfect condition. One bottle comes from another part of the cellar, its label is very torn and the 1985 vintage is no longer clearly legible . We have photos of the bottle before it was "rescued from the cellar" on which the 1985 vintage is still clearly legible. This bottle is offered at a lower price, a great opportunity to treat yourself.
Exceptional provenance in CBO: These bottles come from the cellar of a great Swiss wine connoisseur and collector. We acquired the complete collection containing more than 200 bottles of mainly French and Italian wines. The bottles were all preserved following their purchase en primeur or shortly after their marketing on site, in a natural cellar buried under a 16th-century convent. A humid cellar, which is why some labels are very worn. The levels are generally excellent or perfect, and the most "fragile" bottles testify to conservation in total darkness for more than 30 years!
