Presentation of the Billecart-Salmon estate

The Billecart-Salmon house is located in Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, founded in 1818 by Nicolas François Billecart. Still run by the founding family, it is now in the hands of the seventh generation. Known for its high standards and elegance, it favors vinification in small containers and extended cellar aging, which gives its champagnes a remarkable finesse. The Nicolas-François cuvée, created in 1964 in homage to the founder, is one of the house's flagships.

Presentation of the vintage and the appellation

The Cuvée Nicolas-François Billecart is a blend of Pinot Noir (60%) and Chardonnay (40%), sourced primarily from historic Grands Crus in the Montagne de Reims and Côte des Blancs. The wine is partially vinified in old oak barrels, with a long aging on lees (more than 10 years) in the cellar. This 2000 vintage offers notes of ripe yellow fruits, brioche, and toasted almonds, with a saline and chiseled finish.

Tasting notes : 95/100 (Wine Spectator), 94/100 (Robert Parker), 18/20 (Bettane & Desseauve).

Presentation of the 2000 vintage

The year 2000 was marked by a wet spring followed by a hot summer, with a few thunderstorms in August. The harvest began early, producing rich, ripe grapes. A vintage considered very satisfactory in Champagne, balanced, generous, with good aging potential.
