Presentation of the domain
The Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe, a historic reference in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, is run by the Brunier family on the legendary La Crau plateau: rolled pebbles, mistral winds and old Grenache vines form a distinguished, deep and lasting style, with a strong Mediterranean identity.
Presentation of the vintage
"La Crau" comes from plots of rolled pebbles laid on sand and red clay. Hand-harvested, partial destemming according to ripeness, long macerations in vats, traditional aging in large foudres to preserve the fruit and uprightness. Classic blend dominated by Grenache, complemented by Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault: a pure, juicy and mouth-watering expression of the terroir.
Presentation of the vintage
1999 is an excellent vintage in the Southern Rhône: complete maturity, balance of sun and freshness, ripe tannins and great aging potential. In Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the best bottles today combine depth, garrigue and superb mouthfeel.
Tasting notes
Expressive nose of black cherry, plum and garrigue, notes of liquorice, pepper and a touch of smoke. Full and rhythmic palate, polished tannins, stony structure typical of La Crau; long finish on black fruits, dried herbs and a delicate salinity that calls for the table.
Bottle condition
Perfect level and color; capsule and cork intact; label worn. Sale as is.
Food and wine pairings
Lamb shoulder confit with thyme and mild garlic.
Braised beef with olives and creamy polenta.
Roasted squab, reduced jus and grilled vegetables.
