Presentation of the domain
Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe, run by the Brunier family, is a historic landmark in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Located on the legendary La Crau plateau (rolled pebbles, mistral wind, old vines), the estate produces deep, straight-lined wines designed for aging.
Presentation of the vintage
"La Crau" comes from plots of rolled pebbles laid on sand and red clay. Hand-harvested, partial destemming according to ripeness, long macerations, traditional aging in large tuns to preserve the fruit and uprightness. Classic blend dominated by Grenache, complemented by Mourvèdre, Syrah and Cinsault.
Presentation of the vintage
2001 in the Southern Rhône is a vintage of great harmony: clean ripeness, balanced structure and fine tannins. In Châteauneuf-du-Pape, it offers elegant, deep and persistent wines, today on a very beautiful plateau of maturity while retaining spring.
Tasting notes
Nose of black cherry, plum and garrigue (thyme, bay leaf), touches of liquorice, pepper and a slight smoky note. Full and rhythmic palate, polished tannins, stony structure typical of La Crau; long finish of black fruits, dried herbs and a delicate salinity that calls for the table.
Bottle condition
Perfect level and color; worn and slightly torn label; slightly worn capsule and cork intact. Wine over 10 years old: variations possible depending on storage. Sale as is.
Food and wine pairings
Lamb shoulder confit with thyme and mild garlic.
Provençal stew, creamy polenta.
Roasted squab, reduced jus and porcini mushrooms.
