Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is located in the commune of Saint-Julien-Beychevelle. It is a 75-hectare estate classified as a Second Grand Cru in the 1855 classification.

The estate has existed since 1720, with six families of owners succeeding one another.

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou owes its name to the "beautiful stones," called "graves gunziennes," which are quartz pebbles carried by the primitive Gironde at the beginning of the early Quaternary period, probably almost two million years ago.

These "graves gunziennes" have resulted in lean soils, whose agrological poverty guarantees the qualitative excellence of the wines.

Tasting Notes

A wine of extraordinary charm and elegance, the 1985 Ducru-Beaucaillou has a dark garnet color and a floral nose of cedar blended with blackcurrant and flowers. The wine is at full maturity and soft, with beautiful concentration and purity. (R. Parker 2003)

Exceptional provenance in OWC: These bottles come from the cellar of a great Swiss enthusiast and collector. We acquired the complete collection containing over 200 bottles of mainly French and Italian wines. All bottles have been stored since their purchase en primeur or shortly after their release, in a natural underground cellar beneath a 16th-century convent. It is a humid cellar, which is why some labels are very worn. The levels are generally excellent or perfect, and the "most fragile" bottles show evidence of being kept in complete darkness for over 30 years!
