Ducru-Beaucaillou 1989 - Saint-Julien
Presentation of the domain
Château Ducru-Beaucaillou is located in the commune of Saint-Julien-Beychevelle. A 75-hectare estate, it was classified as a second grand cru in the 1855 classification.
The estate has existed since 1720, with six families of owners succeeding one another.
Château Ducru-Beaucaillou owes its name to the "beautiful pebbles", called Gunzian gravel, which are quartz pebbles carried by the primitive Gironde at the beginning of the early Quaternary, probably nearly two million years ago.
These Gunzian gravels have produced poor soils, whose agricultural poverty guarantees the qualitative excellence of the wines.
Tasting notes
Tannic and underdeveloped, the 1989 is well-made and well-vinified. Full of blackberry and blackcurrant aromas with elegant and fragrant mineral and floral notes, it is medium-bodied, racy, and well-rounded on the palate. (R. Parker 1996)
