About the Winery: Gosset
Maison Gosset, established in 1584 in Aÿ, has maintained its position at the pinnacle of the Champagne hierarchy for centuries. Renowned for its ancestral savoir-faire without malolactic fermentation, it produces champagnes of proverbial longevity. The "Suzanne Gosset" edition pays a historical and vibrant tribute to one of the family's major female figures, who managed the house with courage and vision, imprinting the DNA of prestige and elegance that still characterizes the brand today.
About the Appellation: Historic Champagne Terroirs
This cuvée is based on the unique chalky terroir of Champagne, showcasing old Pinot Noir plots from Aÿ and Bouzy blended with the freshness of Chardonnays. The creation of this ancient blended rosé relies on the subtle addition of a fraction of fine still red wine from the region, lending an inimitable vinous structure to both its color and palate.
About the Vintage: The Legendary 1985 Vintage
1985 is etched in gold in the history of Champagne as one of the most magnificent, yet also most dramatic, vintages of the 20th century. The year began with waves of historic winter frost (-25°C) destroying part of the vineyard, followed by an exceptionally hot and sunny summer and early autumn. This configuration resulted in very limited yields but with absolutely memorable phenolic concentration, sugar richness, and noble acidity.
Description of Bottle Condition
For a collector's bottle that has spanned over forty years of history, this bottle is in an exceptionally beautiful and well-maintained state of preservation. The liquid level is remarkable for its age, testifying to the perfect seal of the original cork. The historic "Suzanne Gosset" label is magnificently preserved, very clean, with a light and noble temporal patina. The heavy capsule is sound and well-secured. No signs of leakage.
Food & Wine Pairings and Serving Suggestions
Serving suggestions: Do not serve this treasure too cold! A temperature of 12°C to 14°C is required to appreciate the complexity of its evolved tertiary aromas. Handle and uncork with extreme care.
Gastronomic pairings: This superb rosé de garde will magically pair with a wild duck with cranberries, a roasted squab in a casserole, thin slices of Pata Negra Bellota ham, or veal sweetbreads with morels.
Personal Note and Cuvée Singularities
"The Suzanne Gosset Rosé 1985 edition is an unfindable jewel, a highly speculative liquid museum piece for discerning collectors. Its color exhibits an evolved partridge eye hue, with copper and brick reflections of total splendor. The nose is a journey through time: notes of dried rose potpourri, undergrowth, white morel, dried fig, noble leather, and Virginia blond tobacco. On the palate, the bubbles have become a satiny caress, giving way to a vinous, noble texture, carried by surprising residual freshness. A rare emotion, to be experienced at least once in an enthusiast's lifetime."
