Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru 1976 - Domaine Gros Brother and Sister
Presentation of the domain:
The Gros Frère et Sœur estate, located in Vosne-Romanée, is one of the most prestigious in the Côte de Nuits region. Founded in 1960, it covers an area of 20 hectares spread across several appellations, including the famous Clos Vougeot, Richebourg, Echezeaux, and Grands-Echezeaux. The estate's vines are cultivated organically, and the winemaking is traditional, respectful of the terroir and the grapes.
Presentation of the vintage:
Grands-Échezeaux is a vineyard located above the village of Flagey-Échezeaux, between Vougeot and Vosne-Romanée in the Côte de Nuits region of Burgundy. It extends southward from Musigny, with a less rugged and more regular pattern. Grands-Échezeaux and Échezeaux are separated by the bottom of the Combe d'Orveau. They have been AOC Grands Crus since July 31, 1937, as has Clos de Vougeot, with which they share the foundations of Cîteaux Abbey dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries. The term "chesaux," of Gallo-Roman origin, means a group of dwellings, probably an ancient hamlet.
With an area of only 8.37 hectares and an average annual production of around 36,000 bottles, the Grands-Echezeaux are much rarer than the Echezeaux, which covers 36.12 hectares and has an annual production of around 160,000 bottles (which is already very little).
Presentation of the 1976 vintage:
The 1976 vintage in Burgundy was considered a hot and dry vintage, with a generally ripe and concentrated harvest. It is often described as a classic-style vintage, with wines that can be elegant, complex, and structured. Burgundy wines from this vintage are renowned for their ability to age well, offering complex aromas and flavors over time. The 1976 Grands-Échezeaux from Gros Frère et Sœur may exhibit specific characteristics related to this vintage, such as fruit ripeness, concentration, and structure.
Food and wine pairing:
The 1976 Grands-Echezeaux from Gros Frère et Sœur pairs perfectly with roast meat dishes, game, mature cheeses and mushrooms.
It can also be enjoyed on its own, as a "meditation" wine, to fully savor its complexity and finesse.
Serving tips:
Enjoy slowly upon opening. Decanting or carafing may be unnecessary, despite the sediment. We simply recommend serving it immediately upon opening in medium-sized glasses and enjoying its development in the glass.
WUAT Note : Please note: Several levels are available, no signs of leakage or wear on the corks, the color is perfect, still very red and the robe perfectly clear. These bottles should create great tasting moments.
