Hermitage La Chapelle 1988 - Paul Jaboulet Ainé

L'Hermitage La Chapelle is a classic wine among wine lovers. "A hill and a legendary history have built, over the centuries, the legendary reputation of this great vintage."

The history of this hill is quite beautiful. But to summarize, a knight, in the 13th century, decided to isolate himself from the world and settled at the top of this hill, he was, little by little, joined by others who decided to plant vines there. The Hermitage actually owes its name to the hermit, the vineyard already existed in Antiquity with the wines of Vienne.

The wines have exceptional aging potential, up to 40 years and more! The vintage comes from very old Syrah vines on stakes.

The 1988 vintage: After the rain...

1988 did not get off to the best of starts for Northern Rhône wines and its Syrahs. However, after an early spring that suffered from hail and heavy rains, the summer and harvest were magnificent, producing rich, tannic, full-bodied Syrahs.

As with the 1988 Bordeaux, there are no compromises; it's either ripe or it isn't! With this Hermitage la Chapelle, there's no need to worry, success is here, with 92 Parker points and glowing tasting notes:

Powerful and extremely rich, it stands out as one of the most classic expressions of Syrah. R.Parker 1996

It's beginning to approach its peak, and this is evident in the very strong appreciation of its price. Don't miss this bottle before it's too late.

WUAT's Note: These bottles come, along with many others, from the cellar of a great Syrah lover. They have been beautifully preserved in a humid natural cellar, on metal cradles. The labels are often badly disintegrated. We cleaned them very carefully and covered them with film. We recommend not removing the film to avoid completely tearing off the labels. It's up to you to decide if you're a gambler.
