Château La Conseillante - Pomerol 2001
Presentation of Château La Conseillante
Château La Conseillante is one of the jewels of the Pomerol appellation, on Bordeaux's Right Bank. Renowned for the elegance and finesse of its wines, the estate is identified by its distinctive silver-hued label and its grape varieties dominated by Merlot, complemented by a significant proportion of Cabernet Franc.
The quality of La Conseillante wines needs no introduction. This château is undoubtedly among the top five in the Pomerol appellation and belongs to the Bordeaux club of wines that consistently deliver excellent results. The style is remarkably pure, velvety, and silky; with age, the aromas evolve towards truffle, violet, and mocha.
Like the nearby Château La Violette, this Pomerol develops notes of violet as it ages. This characteristic has inspired the color of the capsule since 1871.
Presentation of the Pomerol Appellation
Pomerol is a prestigious appellation on the Right Bank of the Bordeaux wine region, situated on a clay-gravel plateau renowned for its great red wines. Unlike other Bordeaux appellations, Pomerol does not have an official classification of its wines. Its châteaux are recognized for the exceptional quality of their wines solely through their reputation and history. Merlot is the king of grapes in Pomerol, producing round, supple wines rich in aromas of red and black fruit, complemented by Cabernet Franc, which brings structure and freshness.
The 2001 Vintage in Pomerol

The climatic conditions of 2001 favored the production of elegant, balanced wines, endowed with beautiful freshness and a refined tannic structure. In Pomerol, the Merlots reached excellent ripeness while retaining great finesse, giving the wines outstanding aging potential.

It's not easy for the 2001 vintage to establish itself after the magnificent 2000. And yet, it possesses a style all its own, a little more "rustic" with very firm tannins, but thankfully softened by two decades of aging. Decanting will do it a world of good.
