Jean-François Ganevat - My Father's Vines Côtes du Jura 2002

Rarity: A Legendary and Mythical Vintage

"Les Vignes de Mon Père" is the flagship and most sought-after cuvée of Jean-François Ganevat, a cult winemaker from the Jura region. This white wine, produced only in the finest vintages and in extremely limited quantities, comes from a plot of very old Savagnin vines planted on the renowned blue marl of the lieu-dit "Les Chalasses." It is a masterpiece of natural winemaking, a true treasure for any collector of rare wines.

Savagnin Aged Ten Years (Yellow Flavor)

This cuvée is made from 100% Savagnin, the king of grapes in the Jura region. What makes it unique is its incredibly long aging process: the wine spends 10 and a half years in barrels (demi-muids) without topping up (that is, without adding more wine to compensate for evaporation), allowing the characteristic veil of yeast to develop. Unlike traditional Vin Jaune (6 years and 3 months), this extended aging gives the wine an extraordinary aromatic richness, oscillating between powerful oxidative notes and a stunning saline and mineral purity.

The 2002 Vintage: Precision and Potential

The 2002 vintage is considered a great one in the Jura. It produced wines of great concentration, while retaining remarkable freshness and acidity. For "Les Vignes de Mon Père," this translates into an elegant tension that balances the power and richness imparted by the very long aging. This is a wine that is only just beginning its life and whose peak is still a long way off.

Tasting Notes: Kaleidoscopic Richness

This Savagnin offers an incredibly complex aromatic profile:

  • Color: Intense, brilliant golden yellow.
  • Nose: A kaleidoscope of aromas of walnut, hazelnut, curry (typical note), dried fruit, sweet spices and saffron, supported by notes of candied citrus and wet rock.
  • Palate: Energetic, ethereal, and remarkably deep. The texture is silky. The acidity (the wine's backbone) is perfectly integrated, offering an almost eternal length on the palate. Saline and mineral finish.

Bottle Condition and Availability

Available from January 5, 2026

This rare bottle is in excellent condition. As is often the case with old Jura wines, the label may show an aged or patinated appearance, attesting to its age and the years it spent in the cellar. The wax seal (cap) is intact, ensuring that the cork has not been tampered with and guaranteeing the perfect integrity of the wine.

Food & Wine Pairings and Serving Suggestions

Serve at room temperature, ideally between 14 and 16°C (do not serve too cold). Decanting for 1 to 2 hours is highly recommended to release its complex aromas. It traditionally pairs well with:

  • Aged Comté cheese (24-36 months).
  • Morels in cream sauce.
  • Chicken with Vin Jaune.
  • Spicy dishes and exotic cuisine with character.
