Introduction to Domaine Méo-Camuzet
Domaine Méo-Camuzet is one of Burgundy's undisputed stars, located in Vosne-Romanée. Under the direction of Jean-Nicolas Méo, the estate has perpetuated Henri Jayer's legacy while asserting its own style: wines of great concentration, deep, but always with sovereign elegance. The "Frère & Sœurs" range corresponds to the estate's haute couture négociant activity, vinified with the same care and rigor as the wines from their own vineyards.
Introduction to the cuvée and appellation
Morey-Saint-Denis is the "middle ground" appellation in the Côte de Nuits, combining the structural power of Gevrey-Chambertin with the floral finesse of Chambolle-Musigny. This Frère & Sœurs cuvée is the result of a rigorous selection of grapes harvested and vinified directly by Jean-Nicolas Méo's team. The wine expresses all the complexity of Morey with that silky "mouthfeel" that has made the house world-renowned.
Introduction to the 2016 vintage
2016 is a miraculous vintage in Burgundy. After devastating spring frost episodes that drastically reduced yields, the summer allowed for perfect ripeness. The result is stunning: wines of rare aromatic intensity, supported by brilliant freshness and tannins of absolute finesse. It is a long-aging vintage that is now beginning to open with striking nobility.
Bottle condition
This duo of bottles is in impeccable condition. The labels are perfectly white and clean, the capsules are intact, and the levels are ideal (just under the capsule). Bottles that seem to come directly from the estate, perfect for cellaring or a high-level tasting.
Tasting notes
Deep ruby color. The nose reveals a sophisticated bouquet of Burlat cherry, wild raspberry, and violet, complemented by subtle touches of sweet spices and licorice. On the palate, the wine is fleshy but with great fluidity. The tannic structure is velvety, offering a long, saline, and intensely fruity finish. A masterful balance.
Food and wine pairings
- Roasted duckling with juniper berries
- Simply grilled aged beef rib steak
- Veal sweetbreads with small vegetables
- Burgundy cheeses (aged Epoisses, Soumaintrain)
Serving suggestions
- Serving temperature: 16–17°C
- Aeration: A 45-minute opening in the bottle is recommended.
- Cellaring: Enjoy now for its brilliance, or keep until 2035 to discover its tertiary complexity.
