Chateau Mouton Rothschild 1990 - Pauillac
About the domain:
Classified as a Premier Cru only in 1973 and not 1855 like its peers. Château Mouton Rothschild is today considered one of the greatest wines in the world. It far surpasses some of the original 1er cru classés in terms of popularity.
The Mouton is making leaps and bounds and is not the most consistent of the 1er crus group until the 2000s. On the other hand, when a vintage is great, it is exceptional! The 1945 or 1982 vintages are legends that almost eclipse the competition! This qualitative irregularity is no more. Today the Mouton is great and can measure itself against the best without fear.
About the vintage:
The 1990 vintage label is illustrated by the American artist Francis Bacon.
Tasting notes:
Open and expressive, this wine offers evolved aromas of blond tobacco, game as well as very pleasant mineral notes.
On the palate, the attack is soft and progressive. The tannic structure, fine and silky, suggests that this Mouton Rothschild has reached its full maturity. The fruit, rather discreet on the nose, is fully expressed on the palate by notes of macerated fruits and prunes in brandy.
Beautiful tangy and airy finish.

About the 1990 vintage:
If you are reading these lines, there is no need to introduce the 1990 vintage to you. It is the vintage of the century for the entire French vineyard (At WUAT we prefer 1989 but it is a matter of taste). The great Bordeaux wines benefit from an exceptional aging potential.
