The legendary Caroni Distillery began operations in 1918 as Trinidad's state distillery. It had its own sugar mill to ensure its supply of local sugar cane.

Caroni, a legendary Trinidad distillery closed in 2002 by decision of the Trinidadian government, left behind legendary heavy and tarry rums. Rum Nation (Rossi & Rossi) has produced a refined selection here, bottled at brut de reduction to preserve the power and signature Caroni.

Presentation of the vintage

Caroni 18 Years Old – Rum Nation. Distilled in June 1998, bottled in June 2016. Aged for 12 years in the tropics and then for 6 years in England (double maturation). Blend of several casks, limited edition of 5,836 bottles . 55% vol., 70 cl.

Profile / Style

Caroni “heavy style”: concentration, depth and hydrocarbon character. Double maturation brings density, elegant dryness and great spicy complexity.

Tasting notes

Intense nose of tar, black molasses, licorice, orange peel, leather, and toasted wood. Full and dry palate, 55% perfectly integrated; notes of bitter cocoa, coffee, ripe exotic fruits, and black olive. Endless, smoky-spicy, salivating finish.

Bottle condition

Perfect condition: impeccable level and color, very beautiful label and capsule (see photos). Numbered bottle, limited edition.

Agreements / Service

Neat at 18–20°C in a tulip glass.
Dark chocolate 70–85%, candied fruit cake.
Cigar/espresso moment for connoisseurs.
