Presentation of the domain
Domaine Sarda-Malet, near Perpignan, has been producing great Rivesaltes for decades. Precise craftsmanship and long aging create a classic style that blends aromatic depth and rancio elegance. The family estate, though renowned and profitable, closed in 2017 following the director's decision to no longer produce in an area encroaching on urbanization.
Presentation of the vintage
Rivesaltes 1970, a naturally sweet wine fortified on grain, aged for many years in barrels (oxidative aging). A typical blend of the appellation, 100% Grenache Noir. Smooth texture, sugar/alcohol balance supported by a beautiful salinity.
Presentation of the vintage
1970 in Roussillon: a hot and dry year, mature, concentrated wines made for aging. In Rivesaltes, the best bottles today offer classic tertiary complexity and remarkable longevity.
Tasting notes
Expected profile: walnuts, dried fig and date, candied orange peel, caramel, coffee/cocoa and sweet spices (elegant rancio). Full and smooth on the palate, saline freshness, long finish on zest and dried fruits.
Bottle condition
Perfect level, bright deep amber color. Patinated/worn label (see photo), capsule and cork intact. Wine over 10 years old: variations possible depending on storage. Sale as is.
Food and wine pairings
Roquefort or blue cheese with parsley, nut bread.
Tarte Tatin or crème caramel.
Roasted nuts/figs, vanilla ice cream.
