Veuve Clicquot-Ponsardin Vintage 1969 - A Journey Through Time
The Excellence of the 1969 Vintage: 1969 is unanimously recognized as one of the greatest years of the 20th century in Champagne. Characterized by wines of great concentration and noble acidity, this year produced bottles capable of defying time. At Veuve Clicquot, this vintage expresses all the power of Pinot Noir, the historical signature of the House.
"Cellar Heart" Conservation
This bottle is a precious witness to the past. The level is considered excellent for a bottle over 50 years old, a sign of a perfectly preserved cork seal. The color is a deep gold, slightly evolved but with great brilliance, promising a complex aromatic profile without premature oxidation. The label is worn, marked by the natural humidity of the cellars of Epernay or Reims: for us, this is the most beautiful adornment, guaranteeing that the wine has never left its protective environment.
Sensory Profile: Maturity and Nobility
- Appearance: A clear, luminous amber, with very discreet, almost creamy effervescence.
- Nose: A tertiary bouquet of infinite richness: notes of dried fruits (fig, date), beeswax, mocha, and gingerbread, underlined by a hint of roast.
- Palate: The attack is incredibly smooth. The wine is full-bodied, vinous, with a silky texture that coats the palate. The finish is long, saline, reminiscent of the nobility of great mature Pinots.
Why acquire this bottle?
One does not buy a 1969 for the perfect aesthetic of a new label, but for the emotion of opening a capsule that saw the light of day before the first step on the Moon. It is the ultimate birth or anniversary gift for an enthusiast born in 1969, or simply for a collector who wishes to understand the evolution of the great wines of Veuve Clicquot-Ponsardin.
WUAT's Opinion
This is a meditation bottle. We advise not to chill it excessively (12°C is ideal) and to let it oxygenate for a few minutes in the glass to release its dormant aromas. Its structure allows it to accompany delicate dishes such as aged Parmesan, veal sweetbreads with morels, or pan-fried foie gras. A suspended moment of grace.
