Presentation of the Veuve Clicquot House
Founded in 1772 in Reims, the Maison Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin is world-renowned and owes its stature to Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin, the famous "Veuve Clicquot" who ran the company from 1805. She was a pioneer of Champagne, having notably invented the riddling table in 1816. The estate is distinguished by the excellence of its vineyard, mainly planted with Pinot Noir, providing power and longevity to the wines.
Presentation of the Cuvée "Sec" and its historical status
-
Rarity Status : This bottle is a testament to the taste of the time (1950s-1960s), where the "Dry" style (more concentrated than today's Brut) was favored.
-
Unique Feature : The "Free Gift" label indicates that this bottle was intended for internal use, as a gift to an employee, or for ceremonial use, and was not intended for standard commercial distribution.
-
Aging Technique (Late Disgorged) : The wine (the juice) has benefited from a very long aging on lees in the Crayères, then was disgorged and dressed more recently (1980s-1990s) as evidenced by the modern head. This late disgorgement preserves the freshness and gives an unequaled aromatic complexity.
-
Tasting Notes : The bubbles are incredibly fine and delicate. The nose is tertiary and deep, with notes of acacia honey, beeswax, white truffle, and dried fruits. On the palate, the richness of the initial "Dry" dosage is perfectly blended, offering a creamy texture balanced by vibrant acidity.
Presentation of the Production Period (Reserve Wine 1950s-1960s)
The base wine comes from a decade when Champagnes were produced for very long aging. The wines of this period, preserved on lees (the technique used here), are renowned for their complexity. They stand the test of time with majesty, developing a unique bouquet without losing their structure thanks to their vintage dosage and the protection of the lees.
